SEO Consultant for Clothing & Fashion Brands

Clothing search runs on product nouns. Shoppers type the garment, the colour and the cut (“guayabera shirt”, “tan linen suit”), then ask fit and fabric questions before they pay. Those searches are won by collection pages, filters that don't flood the index, and product pages that state fabric, fit and care in text. I build that catalogue structure and measure it in orders, not visits.

If product searches land on marketplaces instead of your store, your collection pages are thin or split across filter URLs.

What stands between the search and your website

Shopping results
Product cards with a photo, price and store name. Garment searches often show them above the organic links.
Shopping ads
Paid product cards. Rival stores and marketplaces bid on the same garment names.
Image results
Photo grids on colour and style searches, where the product photo and its alt text count.
People Also Ask

Signs this is what's holding you back

01

Filter URLs flood the index

Every size × colour × fabric click becomes its own URL

Size, colour and fabric filters each add a parameter, and a catalogue of a few hundred products turns into thousands of crawlable URLs. Google spends its visits on those, and the collection pages that should rank get crawled less often.

02

Attributes locked in images

Fabric, fit and care shown in photos, not written on the page

The photo shows the linen weave and the size chart is a JPEG. Google reads neither well, so the page has almost no text to rank for “linen suit” or “half canvas suit”, even when that is exactly what it sells.

03

Messy taxonomy

The same product type filed three different ways

On one 895-product apparel mockup store I worked on, the products came from five separate CSV files with inconsistent names. Before any page could be planned, they had to become one master list tagged across 25 attribute columns.

04

Category up, brand down

More product traffic, fewer people typing your name

On the menswear store in my case below, searches for guayabera shirts and linen suits grew faster than searches for the store's own name, which fell. Collection pages win the new shopper. Email, reviews and a name worth remembering bring them back.

The Plan

What I'd do for your clothing & fashion business

Six moves, in the order they usually pay back. Each one is a service with its own page if you want the detail.

01E-commerce & Shopify SEO

Build collection pages that match the search

“Linen suits”, “guayabera shirts” and “mens linen pants” each get one collection page with its own copy, title and internal links, instead of a bare product grid.

Plan my collection pages
02Technical SEO

Decide which filters get indexed

Filter combinations with real demand (white linen shirt, big and tall) become proper pages. The rest keep working for shoppers but carry a canonical tag, so they stop competing.

Audit my filters
03Topical Maps

Map the catalogue before the pages

Product type, fabric, colour, fit and occasion mapped as attributes. Each attribute then earns a filter, a collection page or a line of product copy, never all three by accident.

Map my catalogue
04On-Page SEO

Write product pages Google can read

Fabric weight, construction, fit and care written as text, the size chart in HTML rather than an image, and titles that name the garment instead of a style code.

Fix my product pages
05Content & Copywriting

Answer fit and fabric questions, then route

“How to measure inseam” and “does linen shrink” draw thousands of searches a month. Each guide links to the size chart and to the collection the reader was shopping.

Plan my fit guides
06Off-Page SEO

Earn links from wedding and style sites

Destination-wedding planners, style writers and venue guides, each qualified before any outreach. No bulk directories and no paid link lists.

Review my backlinks
Sample Topical Map

The pages your clothing & fashion site should own

Built around linen menswear, the niche my case comes from. The same shape fits any apparel catalogue: guides route to size charts and collections, occasion pages pull from the same products, and a filter becomes a page only where search is real.

98%
of non-brand demand is commercial: guayabera shirts, linen suits

A menswear store selling linen suits and guayabera shirts for destination weddings. Nearly every non-brand search that reaches it is someone looking for a garment to buy, and that category demand grew faster than searches for the store's name. Ahrefs estimates about 9,671 organic visits a month.

The honest part: The store's exact brand name is one of the top losing queries in the recent window: category visibility is growing while brand recall softens. The record holds search data only, no revenue or order figures, so this is a visibility result, not a sales one.

Trade Terms, Plain English

The words you'll hear, and what they mean

The trade and SEO terms that come up in clothing & fashion work, so a report never reads like a foreign language.

Collection page
The category page (“Linen suits”) that lists products and ranks for the broad search.
Faceted navigation
The filter sidebar: size, colour, fabric. Each click can create a new URL.
Product variant
One product with options (size, colour) instead of a separate page for each.
Half-canvas
A jacket with a canvas layer sewn into the chest only, so the lapel rolls. Fused jackets glue it in.
GSM
Grams per square metre, the weight of a fabric. A lower number means a lighter, cooler cloth.
Product attribute
A structured fact (fabric, fit, colour) stored as a field, so filters and pages can use it.

Questions

What people ask before starting

Should every filter combination be its own page?

No. Only the combinations people actually search, like “white linen shirt” or “big and tall linen shirts”, earn an indexable page. The rest should keep working for shoppers without competing in Google.

Which page should rank for “linen suit”: a product or a collection?

Usually the collection page, because the searcher wants to compare several suits. Product pages win the narrower searches, like a colour, a cut or a named style.

Our store is on Shopify. Does that limit SEO?

It shapes it. Shopify fixes some URL patterns, like /collections/ and /products/, so the work goes into collection copy, filter handling, variant setup and internal links rather than fighting the platform.

Why write guides if we sell clothes?

Because fit and fabric questions come before the purchase. “How to measure inseam” gets 59,000 searches a month in the US. A guide that answers it and links to your size chart and trousers collection reaches the shopper before they pick a store.
