SEO Consultant for Education Providers

Exam-prep search splits two ways. Most of the demand is free practice: “sat practice test” gets 41,000 searches a month in the US, and that student wants a test, not a sales page. The rest is buying: prep classes, a tutor nearby, an online course. I build the practice pages to rank and hand students on to the course, and I measure enrolments, not visits.

If your free practice pages rank but enrolments stay flat, the route from practice to course is missing.

Signs this is what's holding you back

01

Practice with no route

Free pages rank, and nothing on them points to the course

Most exam-prep demand is free material: practice samples, vocabulary lists, templates. On one exam-prep site only 35% of non-brand clicks carried buying intent. The free pages rank, then the student leaves with no class or course in view.

02

The login page is a bare form

Returning students arrive through your busiest door

On that same account, a login search was the fastest-growing query. Those are returning students, not new ones. A bare login form offers them no next course, no mock exam and no upgrade at the moment they are most engaged.

03

Stale test dates

Dates, fees and format pages left from last cycle

Test dates, fees and formats change every cycle. A page still showing last year's schedule loses the click, and the trust, to the official site or to a competitor who updated theirs sooner.

04

One page for every exam

SAT, ACT and language prep sharing one course page

Every exam you teach shares one page with a price and a buy button, so none of them ranks for its own search. A student comparing courses wants the format covered, class times, the tutor and a sample lesson.

The Plan

What I'd do for your education business

Six moves, in the order they usually pay back. Each one is a service with its own page if you want the detail.

01Content & Copywriting

Write practice content that hands off to the course

Practice tests, vocabulary lists and writing samples carry most of the exam-prep demand. Each page ends with the step a student needs next: a timed mock, a live class or the full course.

Plan my practice content
02Topical Maps

Map every exam, section and question type

One hub per exam, then its sections, question types, scoring and dates. The map shows which gaps to fill, and which pages should link to which course.

Map my exam-prep site
03On-Page SEO

Give each course its own deep page

Format covered, class schedule, tutor, price and a sample lesson, one exam per page. The login page gets the same care: returning students see their next step there.

Review my course pages
04Technical SEO

Keep dated pages on one steady URL

Test dates, fees and score tables change each cycle. I update the same URL instead of publishing a new one each year, so the page keeps its links and its rankings.

Check my dated pages
05Local SEO

Win the map for classes and tutoring

Parents and students search “tutoring near me” 19,000 times a month in the US. Profile categories, class schedules, and reviews that name the exam taught.

Check my local listing
06Off-Page SEO

Earn links from schools and study communities

School counsellor resource pages, education blogs and study groups, each checked before outreach. Links that match who studies with you, not bulk directories.

The fastest-growing searches were brand searches, led by a login term: students coming back, not only new ones finding the site. Non-brand demand is mostly practice material (samples, vocabulary, templates), so the free pages have to lead somewhere.

The honest part: GA4 shows real conversion-rate erosion: sessions grew into 2026 (about 119,000 in March) while conversions fell from 9,000 to 13,000 a month through most of 2025 to 2,600 to 5,000 for most of 2026. The August 2025 sales figure is worked back from the report's stated change, and the 35% commercial share of non-brand clicks is a judgment call.

The words you'll hear, and what they mean

The trade and SEO terms that come up in education work, so a report never reads like a foreign language.

Full-length mock
A timed practice test built to the real exam's format and length.
Scaled score
Correct answers converted to the exam's reporting scale, so different test forms compare fairly.
Band score
A score reported as a level on a band scale, common in language exams.
Adaptive section
A section whose difficulty depends on how the section before it went.
Brand + login search
A student typing your name and “login”. A returning user, often ignored.
Commercial intent
A search from someone ready to pay, like “sat prep classes”, not a free practice search.

Questions

What people ask before starting

Free practice tests bring traffic. Do they bring students?

Only when they lead somewhere. On the Canadian exam-prep case, 35% of non-brand clicks were commercial; the rest came to practise. I build each free page to end with the paid next step: a timed mock, a class or the course.

Should each exam get its own pages?

Yes, for every exam you teach. SAT, ACT, GRE and language exams each have their own searches, formats and dates. A shared page ranks for none of them, so each exam gets a hub, a course page and the practice pages that feed it.

Does SEO work for a local tutoring centre?

Yes. “tutoring near me” gets 19,000 searches a month in the US, and near-me searches are decided on the map. Class schedules, the exams you cover and reviews that mention them matter more there than blog posts.

Why did our traffic grow while enrolments fell?

I've seen it on my own exam-prep case: sessions peaked near 119,000 in March 2026 while conversions kept falling. Before changing anything, I check which pages grew, who those visitors were, and where the route to the course broke.

Want more enrolled students from Google?

Send me your site and the exams you teach. I'll look at it myself and reply personally, usually within one business day.
