SEO Consultant for Plumbers

Plumbing search splits in two. The urgent half (a burst pipe, “emergency plumber near me”) is won on the map pack and reviews. The research half (water heater brands, repiping costs, sewer warning signs) is won with content that routes the reader to the page that books the job. I build both, and measure them in booked jobs, not visits.

If your blog gets traffic but the phone doesn't ring more, the pages are answering the wrong half of the search.

01

Wrong-thing domain

Google reads your site as an info blog, not a plumber

On one plumbing site I audited, water-heater topics filled 28 of 29 blog posts. The pages that actually produced calls (local service pages, the homepage, the brand) got under 4% of the traffic.

02

Split city pages

Two or three URLs competing for the same town

Old location pages, a new template and a landing page for ads all target the same city. Google splits the ranking between them, so none of them ranks the way one strong page would.

03

Traffic without booked jobs

Reports show visits, dispatch shows nothing new

Your SEO report and your ServiceTitan numbers never meet. Nobody can say which pages produced booked jobs, so nobody knows what to do more of.

04

Map pack slippage

Dropping from the top three on the map

Your details differ across directories, reviews come in bursts when someone remembers to ask, and a competitor with a worse reputation ranks above you on the map.

The Plan

What I'd do for your plumbing business

Six moves, in the order they usually pay back. Each one is a service with its own page if you want the detail.

01Local SEO

Win the map pack for every service area

Urgent plumbing searches are decided before anyone scrolls. Profile, matching details on every directory, and reviews that name the job and the town.

Audit my map presence
02Topical Maps

Plan the site as service × city

Drain, sewer, repiping, leak detection, water heaters and hydro jetting each get their own page, then its own city pages only where the area justifies one.

Map my plumbing site
03Content & Copywriting

Write the research half, then route it

Water heater brand comparisons and sewer warning signs bring the traffic. Each piece links to the service page at the moment the reader realises they need a plumber.

Plan my plumbing content
04On-Page SEO

Rebalance toward commercial pages

If the blog outranks the service pages, the domain reads as an info site. Service pages get the depth, the internal links and the titles.

Fix my service pages
05Technical SEO

Merge duplicate city and service URLs

Redirect the losing versions into one strong page per service and place, so the ranking stops being split three ways.

Find my duplicate pages
06Off-Page SEO

Earn local links that match the trade

Suppliers, local associations and home-improvement sites, qualified before they're pursued. No bulk directory submissions.

This plumber grew on comparison searches like “best water heater brand”, not on its own name or “plumber near me”. The research half of plumbing search, written well and linked to the install page, became the revenue line.

The honest part: The July figure is worked back from the report's stated percentage change, not pulled independently. Total account revenue dipped 4% the same month organic grew, and the short brand-name search lost 61% of its clicks.

Work Across Trades?

If you do more than one thing

Trade Terms, Plain English

The words you'll hear, and what they mean

The trade and SEO terms that come up in plumbing work, so a report never reads like a foreign language.

Service × city page
One page for one service in one town, like “drain cleaning in Tampa”.
Local Services Ads (LSA)
Google's pay-per-lead ads with the “Google Guaranteed” badge.
Map pack
The three businesses Google shows on the map for a local search.
NAP
Name, address and phone, which must match everywhere you're listed.
Booked job
A call that became a scheduled job in your dispatch software. The number that matters.
Cannibalisation
Two of your own pages competing for the same search, so both rank worse.

Questions

What people ask before starting

Do plumbers still need SEO if we run Local Services Ads?

Yes. Ads stop the day the budget does, and the map pack and organic results below them take most of the clicks on searches where no ad is shown. SEO is the part that keeps working.

Should we have a page for every town we serve?

Only where the page can say something real about that area. Near-identical city pages compete with each other. I'll tell you which areas justify their own page and which should share one.

Our blog gets traffic. Why doesn't it bring calls?

Usually because the posts answer research questions and stop there. Each post needs a clear route to the service page the reader will need next, and the service pages need to be stronger than the blog.

Can you measure SEO in booked jobs?

Where your dispatch or call-tracking software allows it, yes. I reconcile organic calls and forms against booked jobs so the report shows revenue, not only rankings.

Want more booked plumbing jobs from Google?

Send me your site and the areas you serve. I'll look at it myself and reply personally, usually within one business day.
