SEO Consultant for MSPs & IT Providers

MSP search splits by urgency. An office with no IT provider searches “it support near me” when something breaks, and the map pack decides who gets the call. A business replacing its provider compares service pages, pricing approach and compliance know-how, and the site with the depth wins. I build for both, and judge the work by the searches that lead to contracts.

If competitors with thinner offers outrank you, they are usually covering topics your site never mentions.

Signs this is what's holding you back

01

Coverage gap

Competitors answer questions your site never mentions

On one managed IT engagement, a competitor covered 137 topics the client's site never touched, and a second covered 286. Buyers researching backups, compliance or Microsoft 365 found those sites instead.

02

Thin service pages

One paragraph per service, then a contact form

Cybersecurity, backup, cloud and help desk share one page or five short ones. A buyer comparing providers wants scope, response times and onboarding steps, and the thin page gives none of it.

03

Blog cannibalisation

Posts competing with the service pages they should feed

Three posts on “what is managed IT” and the services page all chase the same search. Google splits the ranking, the post often wins, and the buyer lands on an article with no route to a quote.

04

Twenty findings, two causes

Audits that list everything and settle nothing

On that same engagement I ran conversion, traffic-drop and coverage audits side by side. Of 20 findings, only 2 showed up in more than one audit: the coverage gap and crawl health. The rest sat downstream of those two.

The Plan

What I'd do for your managed IT business

Six moves, in the order they usually pay back. Each one is a service with its own page if you want the detail.

01Topical Maps

Map the site against competitors, page by page

I compare your topics with the providers outranking you and list the gaps by service: security, backup, compliance, cloud, help desk. Gaps become pages in the order buyers need them.

Map my MSP site
02On-Page SEO

Give every service its own deep page

Scope, response times, onboarding steps, what's included and what isn't. Security, backup and Microsoft 365 each get a page that answers what a buyer asks on a sales call.

Review my service pages
03Content & Copywriting

Turn threat and compliance searches into pipeline

Posts on phishing, business email compromise and CMMC reach decision-makers who are worried but not yet buying. Each one links to the service page that answers the worry.

Plan my IT content
04Technical SEO

Merge competing posts and fix crawl health

Blog posts that compete with each other or with a service page get merged and redirected. Crawl issues flagged by more than one audit go to the top of the queue.

Find my competing pages
05Local SEO

Win the map across your service area

Offices with no provider search “it support near me” when something breaks. Profile categories, matching details on every directory, and reviews that name the problem you solved.

Check my local listing
06Off-Page SEO

Earn links that match a B2B provider

Chambers of commerce, business associations and industry groups, each checked before outreach. Toxic links get audited out, work I have done on a managed IT account.

Impressions fell from a mid-2025 spike while average position climbed about 17 places: the site stopped being shown for everything and started ranking for searches that fit. Monthly reports put GSC impressions at 974K by August 2026.

The honest part: Total GA4 sessions (all channels) held at roughly 2,200 to 4,200 a month, then collapsed to 112 in August and 27 in September 2026. The cause is unconfirmed, so read this as a track record, not a live account. A later report's count of keywords in position one is left out: its ranking table looked duplicated.

If you do more than one thing

Trade Terms, Plain English

The words you'll hear, and what they mean

The trade and SEO terms that come up in managed IT work, so a report never reads like a foreign language.

MSP
Managed service provider: runs a client's IT for a monthly fee.
MSSP
Managed security service provider: security monitoring only, often around the clock.
Co-managed IT
An MSP working beside a client's in-house IT team, not replacing it.
BDR
Backup and disaster recovery: copies of the data, plus a tested way to restore it.
Coverage gap
Topics a competitor has pages for that your site doesn't.
Cannibalisation
Two of your own pages competing for the same search, so both rank worse.

Questions

What people ask before starting

Do MSPs need local SEO if we sell to businesses?

For most, yes. Offices without an IT provider search “managed it services near me” (11,000 a month in the US) and “it support near me”, and the map pack decides many of those. Larger contracts come through organic service pages, so I build both.

We blog every week. Why don't we rank?

Volume is rarely the problem I find. It's coverage and overlap: several posts chase the same topic while whole service areas have no page. On one managed IT site, a competitor covered 137 topics the client never wrote about.

Will SEO bring managed contracts, or only break-fix calls?

Both, from different pages. Break-fix calls come from the map. Contracts come from service pages built for comparison: scope, onboarding, compliance and how pricing works. Those are the pages a buyer reads when shortlisting providers.

How do you report SEO results for an MSP?

Position and coverage on the searches that bring contracts, not total traffic. On the Texas MSP case, average position went from 41.2 to 24.2 while impressions fell from a spike, a change a traffic-only report would miss.
